Like many of her fellow royals, the Thai Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana, granddaughter of King Bhumibol, is a keen and talented rider.
The Princess has ridden horses since childhood, but has only started competing internationally in equestrian sports within the last few years. For the next couple of weeks, she will captain the Thai equestrian team at the Asian Games 2014 in Incehon, South Korea. She also competed in the games in 2006, only in a different sport — back then she was a member of the Thai badminton team.
The Asian Games 2014 run from September 19th to October 4th and feature more than 435 events in 36 different sports and disciplines. The 27-year-old Princess, who has been on the national team since the Southeast Asian Games in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar in 2013, will be competing in the dressage discipline on her horse, Prince Charming.
“Spirit Incheon”, a newly made short film about the Thai equestrian team, among others starring the Princess, is currently showing on TV and in cinemas in Thailand. In the film, which has been made to promote the Thai team for the ongoing games in Incheon and to bring focus to equestrian sports in general, the individual qualities of each of the 11 team members are presented.
The Thai rock band, Big Ass, performs the theme song of the film and a music video starring the Thai equestrian team members has just been released.
